Life is going to knock you down. There is absolutely no way you can get around “going through the valley of the shadow of death.” But, sometimes, in the midst of my valley season, I forget that I’m blessed. I’m blessed and highly favored to be accurate. So, for a week I took time every day to reflect on one aspect of the day that I was thankful for.
Sunday, November 13th
What had happened was, after I got back from the county fair I twisted my leg pretty bad. I couldn’t sleep through the night because the pain was so bad. I even considered going to the emergency room several different times. Fortunately, I have access to an eDoctor and after a conference with the lovely medicine man and a quick and painful trip to Walgreens, I had professional pain pills. Then, I spent most of the day on the couch prepping for my #BooksandBronzer on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince post and watching Gilmore Girls, which took my mind off of all the pain I was in.
Monday, November 14th
I was faced with a sink or swim situation last week and it forced me to do something that I should have done a long time ago. I got a part-time job at Ulta! It’s no secret that I love makeup and some of my favorite ODposts have surrounded products that I’ve been obsessed with. My ultimate career goal is to own a beauty product line and this part-time job will give me the chance to be in a beauty retail environment, save some coins, and start my beauty career. I should have done this forever ago.

Food on the Table
The explanation behind this is simple. I went grocery shopping and didn’t have to think too hard about getting everything I wanted. It’s the little blessings that mean the most sometimes.
Wednesday, November 16th
Epsilon Pledge Class
Epsilon turned four on the 16th and it was huge for me. I’ve really been blessed to be part of this pledge class. My pledge brothers are constantly a source of inspiration, encouragement, support, turn up, and more. It’s been four years of brotherhood and I’m thankful to be on this life journey with them. And because I was given Epsilon, I’ve had the chance to be a part of a bigger chapter full of people like my lineage, specials, and Kappa Class kids who have forever shaped my life. I’m thankful AF for the continuous blessings that Epsilon has given me.
Thursday, November 17th
I went to Books-A-Million for the first time on this day and CASHED OUT! (And by cashed out I mean spent $20 on books.) But the thankful part about this was that they were collecting donations for children in the hospital and I donated a new Magic Tree House book. These books are part of the reason I feel in love with reading in the first place. Them lil kids always found themselves in some mess but, I loved it. Which is why being able to give that book back was special to me.
Friday, November 16th
In the midst of work, finding a second job, my personal life, and J.K. Rowling liking my tweet about my Half-Blood Prince post, I had one of the longest weeks in recent history. So, when Friday night came to a close, I was beyond elated to close my eyes and get some sleep.
Saturday, November 17th
I’ve become known to prefer sitting at home and watching Netflix all weekend and that’s true…part of the time. Between my crazy year in New Jersey and moving to Jacksonville, most of my core friends are long distance. Which has it’s pros and cons, but I miss having a go-to group of people who are down for the turn-up or watching a movie or a spontaneous trap brunch. I love all the growth I’ve had post-graduation, but I’d be lying if I said my journey wasn’t lonely…But this weekend, I had plans. I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and bar hopped with some pretty dope people.
James 1:2 says “count it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you meet various trials” ESV. Which is what I spent my last week doing, counting the joy. Life is hard, but I’m blessed af.
